You may have heard the story about a man who, on his way to the airport, dropped his pet parrot off at a boarding kennel. As the man was leaving the kennel office, his parrot frantically called out to him, "Wait! I'm sorry! Please come back! I love you!"
Animals understand more than we imagine, however, the human concept of 'taking a vacation,' or the need to go away for any amount of time eludes them.
Our pets interpret our leaving as a permanent departure, especially when we pack them up and drop them off in an unfamiliar place. They suffer tremendous anxiety wondering if we will ever come back for them.
When you allow your pet to stay at home to await your return, not only do you reduce the stress your pet would experience from being left in a noisy kennel with metal bars and concrete floors, but you also reduce the chances that your pet will be exposed to various contagious elements typically found in boarding facilities.
